To those interested in Patristics and the Desert Fathers, or to those who simply seek to gain a purer and more genuine understanding of a true Christian life, I cannot but recommand "In the Heart of the Desert (revised version)" by John Chryssavgis. Although using the scholarly approach, Chryssavgis' intent is a spiritual one, and the book in the end reads more like a spiritual work than like a scholarly one. A companion to the Sayings of the Desert Fathers, this book can also simply be read on its own and will satisfy all who long for help to meet with God by accompanying on this difficult but sure path those who have met with Him.
