I'm learning Greek on my own. I realize that Greek is a "living" language! Everything moves and changes in shades and hues!! Much like my language of Khasi. Fascinating! I first read the English version of Greek stories when I was 12 and now, at 50, I'm trying to learn this ancient language. The goal: to read the New Testament in the original tongue it was written in. I'd welcome all the help I could get from this κοινωνια. My drawback is that I have very limited resources at my disposal (mostly downloaded sound files of Greek words). I'm looking for large files with Greek dialogues/readings so that I am absorb the sounds and later link them to meanings; I want to understand, think, and speak the language without having to translate it into English first. Any solution?

How about this?
Please pardon me for not using accent marks.

Μη φοβου. Aφωνος ισθι.
Fear not! Be voiceless!

Παν γαρ ορθοβαινει
For everything is going right.

Hi Thomas

To be able to speak Greek without having first to translate, you need everyday exercise. The material available online is ample, just devote some hours to find, select, save, bookmark...

I understand that one of your main problems is how to pronounce Greek words. Besides Elpenor's language and library pages, visit Ellopos' www.ellopos.net/gr/player.asp">Greek Diary where you will find many audio files of various length with narrations in Greek.
