Hello!

I'm still studying the Gospel of John in the original Greek and I saw that many translators render Μονογενής as "the Unique" or "only". Shouldn't this mean "only (Μονο)-begoten(γενής)"?

Thanks

I've seen "only", but for the first time now I learn that there is a "unique" translation. Of course, the most usual (and accurate) is only-begotten, as you say.

Ok, thank you. Well, the "unique" one I found in dictionaries, not in actual Bible translations (where we find "only"). But some dictionaries don't even mention "only-begotten". So that seemed strange.
