This is a dangerous state of
affairs for humanity, as we see from the disturbing pathologies of
religion and reason which necessarily erupt when reason is so reduced that
questions of religion and ethics no longer concern it. Attempts to
construct an ethic from the rules of evolution or from psychology and
sociology, end up being simply inadequate.
Humanistic values are simply
inadequate, that is correct, but I wonder if Benedict understands what he
says. Wonderment is rhetorical of course, since the lecture we read,
even if we had no other document of the papal thinking, suffices to explain
how papacy transformed the very faith into a humanism.
Just replace psychology,
sociology, etc., with theology, a theology having been reduced by
papacy to
the same "reasonable" level with the sciences that followed (whether
seemingly re-born from the ashes of another culture, or not), and you have
an immediate idea of the transformation. The papal confusion is manifest by
his very talk about a necessary hellenization of Christianity, that is,
about his sur-real (above and beyond a reality that he despises),
distinction of Aristotle as being more hellenic than a Plato he does not
even know!
This parody of thinking is
being offered to the modern West as antidote to the nihilism that the
ideological-metaphysical terror-driven parody of faith expresses from the
start and in the name of God. This explains how by the pope, when praising
Greek culture, a defamation of Hellenism is born or reborn, no less than
when attacking the Greeks. To young readers my advice is : beware!,
search for the true meaning, when you hear the pope speaking about the
supreme Good of the Hellenization of christianity and how he loves Manuel II
Palaeologus and how he hates Islamic Jihad – ask him :
