The core meaning of the word Baptism

refering to water, and the amount of water. Sprinkle? Dunk? Submerge? Dip?

Baptism (βάπτισμα), means full immersion into
something (in this case water). The word is related with baptein (βάπτειν)
which means painting: what is immersed, is changed by the immersion.
