ἄξιον Ἐφεσίοις ἡβηδὸν ἀπάγξασθαι πᾶσι καὶ τοῖς ἀνήβοις τὴν πόλιν
καταλιπεῖν͵ οἵτινες Ἑρμόδωρον ἄνδρα ἑωυτῶν ὀνήιστον ἐξέβαλον φάντες·
ἡμέων μηδὲ εἷς ὀνήιστος ἔστω͵ εἰ δὲ μή͵ ἄλλη τε καὶ μετ΄ ἄλλων.

κόσμον τόνδε͵ τὸν αὐτὸν
ἁπάντων͵ οὔτε τις θεῶν οὔτε
ἀνθρώπων ἐποίησεν͵ ἀλλ΄ ἦν ἀεὶ καὶ
ἔστιν καὶ ἔσται πῦρ ἀείζωον͵
ἁπτόμενον μέτρα καὶ ἀποσβεννύμενον
μέτρα.

ἓν τὸ σοφὸν μοῦνον λέγεσθαι
οὐκ ἐθέλει καὶ ἐθέλει Ζηνὸς ὄνομα.

πολυμαθίη νόον ἔχειν οὐ
διδάσκει· Ἡσίοδον γὰρ ἂν ἐδίδαξε
καὶ Πυθαγόρην αὖτίς τε Ξενοφάνεά τε
καὶ Ἑκαταῖον.
