Bacchus: A thyrsus in your hand, and the dappled hide of a deer.

Pentheus: I can not wear a woman's dress.

Bacchus: But you will shed blood if you join battle with the Bacchae.

Pentheus: True; we must first go and see.

Bacchus: That is wiser at least than to hunt evils with evils.

Pentheus: And how shall I go through the city escaping the notice of the
Cadmeans?

Bacchus: We will go by deserted roads, and I will guide you.

Pentheus: Every thing is better than for the Bacchae to mock me.

Bacchus: We will go into the house and consider what seems best.
