Summary
As Copperfield walks past Steerforth’s home, Dartle says that she wants to talk to him.
Littimer tells of how they went to France, Italy, and Switzerland.
Steerforth ‘became restless’ Littimer says, and Emily is told that she should marry ‘a very respectable person’.
Littimer goes on to say that Emily ran away from Italy and hasn’t been seen since.
Steerforth sacked Littimer and sent him home.
Copperfield tells Mr Peggotty this information and he is convinced that Emily is still alive.
They decide to look for Martha, to see if she knows where she is.
