"Natural phenomenon"like rainbow, storm, lightening could be seen in a lot of stories.
How these elements are effective on literature?
As ab good example, here is "Christmas Carol"(by Dickens)which shows us melancholy, gloomy mood by describing fog, frost ,clouds.
Another one is from "Huckleberry Finn " . The scene about thunder, gust, wind (chapter 9) is greatly influential on literary art as a spice of plot . It would be appriciated by everyone who will try or has read already this book .
Maybe the longer the story is , the more important these elements are , to catch our attention to vivid description.
I hope your opinion on my idea .
Thanks in advance .

Hi Nobuko,
I just read your considerations concerning the meaning of natural phenomena in stories. What I observed in stories is that in fact nature plays an important role in the plot, regardless the meaning of nature in the plot. What often happens in stories by Romanian writers (for these are best known by me) is that nature's description is designed to underline concordance between nature and human feelings or to show us, that we, as human beings, in fact have no importance on the scale of huge universe we live in.
What I observed as well is that the preference of authors in proceedings designed to show insignifiance of our lives goes to mechanical meanses (radio in, if I am not mistaken in translation of title in English "No Change on Western Line of Front" by Remark).
Regardless our feelings and meanings of natural phenomena, the most sure thing is that nothing is senseless in good novel - for nature gives us atmosphere of the whole book.
It is psychologically motivated proceeding - we know that psychologiosts advice us to live aa rhythm of every7 year of our lives - for so we will live longer, if no accident will cut our earthy way...
