At The Homer Recital
seems it is all lies
in the house of thoughts
the imaginings at the seat
in the library
near the writing desk
reading each strophe slowly
and reflecting
never knowing
the right way to say
the poetic line
in the tongue intended
something significant
must be done
so I visit the morning gathering
inside the cafe
cafe-lattes capuccinos
on tables
the rising steam -
a huddled nest of body heat
murmurs of poets breaths
from beaks uttering in mists
vocal signatures
trail on the wintered windows
non-anglicized stress-free
flow of mellifluous vowels
pouring on toast
tasting each morsel aurally
something different
in her inflection
when she spoke Greek
reading the Odyssey
and hearing her words
as Homer would have recited them
filled the coop
with agape adoration
